Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about traveling to Syria: safety, visas, payments, booking process, and more.

Everything you need to know about traveling to Syria with Syria Link.

What is the best time to visit Syria?

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are ideal, with pleasant temperatures and clear skies. Summers (June to August) are hot, especially in Palmyra and inland areas, but manageable with early starts. Winters (December to February) are mild in Damascus but can be cold and rainy in Aleppo and the north.

Can I use credit cards or ATMs in Syria?

International credit cards and ATMs do not work in Syria due to banking sanctions. You must bring sufficient cash in USD or EUR for the duration of your trip. Your guide can advise on currency exchange locations. We recommend carrying small denominations for everyday purchases.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking at least 3-4 weeks in advance to allow time for visa processing, hotel confirmation, and guide scheduling. Last-minute inquiries are possible depending on availability, but visa timelines may limit options.

How do I book a tour?

All bookings start with an inquiry. Fill out the inquiry form, message us on WhatsApp, or send an email. We respond with a proposed itinerary, price, and availability. Once confirmed, we send detailed payment and preparation instructions. No online payments are processed - everything is confirmed manually.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes, comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended. Your insurance should cover medical expenses, trip cancellation, and emergency evacuation. Note that many standard travel insurance policies exclude Syria. We recommend checking with specialized providers or your insurer to confirm coverage.

Can I enter Syria from Lebanon?

Yes. Traveling from Beirut to Damascus by road is common and takes approximately 2.5-3 hours including the border crossing. We provide private transfers with a driver who assists at the border. The road is paved and the crossing is straightforward with proper documentation.

What payment methods do you accept?

Syria is primarily a cash economy due to international banking restrictions. We accept USD and EUR cash. We discuss payment details, including deposits and final payment, during the confirmation process. You will receive clear payment instructions before travel.

Are the tours private or group tours?

Most tours are private, meaning you have your own guide, driver, and vehicle. We also organize small group tours on specific dates. All tours can be customized. Let us know your preference when you inquire.

Is Syria safe to visit?

Syria has stable areas that are open for tourism, including Damascus, Aleppo, Homs, Palmyra, and the coastal region. Syria Link only operates in areas where conditions are stable and local authorities support tourism. We monitor the security situation continuously and adjust itineraries if needed. Most visitors report feeling safe and welcomed throughout their trip.

Can women travel solo in Syria?

Yes. Many women travel solo in Syria with a local guide. Syria Link has hosted solo female travelers from many countries. We provide experienced guides, safe accommodations, and practical advice about local customs and dress. Your guide and driver are with you throughout the tour.

How does the visa process work?

We provide an official visa assistance letter (invitation) that you submit with your visa application at the Syrian embassy in your country. Processing time is typically 1-4 weeks depending on your nationality. We also coordinate local security clearance for entry. If you need help, we can guide you through every step.

What should I wear in Syria?

Syria is generally conservative. Women should cover shoulders and knees; a light scarf is recommended for visiting mosques. Men should avoid shorts in public places and wear long trousers. Comfortable walking shoes are essential for the Old City and archaeological sites. Dress codes are more relaxed in hotel areas.
